Leading the Way
The Charities is a one-of-a-kind entity in the state and is the area's largest public charity focused solely on health. Prevention guides both our research and our funding, especially in the broad areas of primary healthcare, mental health and dental health. However, the Charities has an approach to health that examines the context and not just an absence of disease.
Funded programs include those that incorporate a leadership partnership, an educational component or an innovational component. Depending on more than financial support to grantee organizations to improve and sustain health in the community, the Charities also leads the way in the four specific areas of expertise to enhance its ability to incorporate its core operating values: informed action, collaboration and empowerment. Those areas are interactive and include:
- Community-Based Participatory Research
- Health Information Systems
- Capacity Building for Nonprofits
- Capacity Building for Communities
We encourage leadership in all we do from our giving club The Bishop's Leadership Council to the annual Community Health Leadership Award program.
